“Clean, conscious craftsmanship”: How Terre Candle is creating luxury that lasts

Terre Candle is about more than fragrance: what founder Sandra pours into her luxury candles are memories, moods and magic. Inspired by how smells can take us through time and space, she created Terre Candle to evoke new experiences. And long after the mesmerising scents melt away, her kaleidoscopic hand-blown jars are symbols of art and eco-consciousness.

What’s the background to Terre Candle?

Terre Candle was born in 2016 from a love of interior design, storytelling, and a desire to bring luxury to every home. Inspired by global travel and love of fragrance, Terre (which means “earth” in French) was founded to create more than just luxury candles: we craft experiences.

Each candle is hand-blown and designed with eco-conscious packaging and fragrance blends that evoke memory, mood and a little magic.

How do you blend luxury candles with sustainability?

Luxury means more than just beautiful scents or beautiful jars: it means clean, conscious craftsmanship. I blend premium, vegan ingredients with sustainable practices to create candles that feel indulgent, but leave a light footprint.

I always ensure to use premium clean-burning soy wax [and] cotton wicks to ensure a safe and refined experience. Every candle is hand-poured in small batches, reflecting the care and craftsmanship behind each piece.

Our packaging is made in the UK and is designed to be elegant as it is eco-conscious – from reusable vessels to plastic-free shipping materials. I always source responsibly to minimise waste and all my supplies are based in the UK.

Your hand-blown candle jars are designed in vivid patterns and vibrant colours. What’s the inspiration behind these designs?

As a painter, I wanted to ensure that each hand-blown candle jar is a tiny work of art, inspired by artistry, paintings and interior design.

No two are exactly alike – just like moments, memories or people. The vibrant colours and flowing different patterns draw from [anything from] desert sunset and ocean tides to textiles and animal prints. These jars are designed to be kept, cherished and repurposed – because beauty should never be disposable.

Any tips for how someone can re-use the jars after the candle is all gone?

The jar was made to last and here are a few tips:

  • Mini vase, perfect for fresh blooms or a single dramatic flower
  • Jewellery box to store rings or earrings
  • Desk organiser to keep pens, paperclips [or] paint brushes
  • Tea light holder: drop a small tea light in the coloured glass
  • Planter, ideal for succulents
  • Bathroom beauty holder (cotton pads, Q-tips)

What kind of customer loves your products?

My customers are usually someone who finds beauty in the details. They appreciate quality over quantity and are drawn to pieces that are both artful and intentional.

They care about the planet and seek brands that align with their values i.e. clean ingredients, sustainable practices and thoughtful design.

What is the inspiration behind your pillar candle collection?

The pillar candle is inspired by sculptural form and timeless design. I wanted to create pieces that function not only as a candle but as artistic objects – meant to be displayed, admired and enjoyed.

What’s your favourite candle scent and how does it make you feel?

Le Soleil is my absolute favorite. It’s sweet, radiant and uplifting which transports me to Martinique. The pineapple scent in the air, the cream coconut scent and the vanilla note gives me the feeling that something good is about to happen. It’s both energizing and comforting, like a beautiful breath on a sunny day. It is my go-to when I need some clarity, a mood boost and just for soaking in the moment.

How has your passion and skill for candle-making evolved over the years?

When I first started, candle making was a creative escape. Over the years, that spark has grown into a deep craft. I’ve learned how subtle shifts in temperature wax blend, fragrance ratio can transform a candle completely.

Today it’s not just about making candles: it’s about telling stories, building a sustainable brand and creating memories in my candle workshops.

What has been your proudest moment running Terre Candle?

One of my proudest moments was being featured on This Morning. Seeing Terre Candle highlighted on national television – a platform I’ve admired for years – was surreal. It felt like a full-circle moment: all the late nights, hand pouring and testing finally being seen and celebrated.

What made it even more special was the response from our community – messages of support, orders flying in, and people discovering the brand for the first time. It gave me the motivation to keep going one candle at a time.
