February being the month of love, Aftrad Village Kitchen wants to celebrate this month with groups of people looking to nurture their relationships through the art of cooking and eating together. Our cooking class, dabbed ‘LOVE BREWED IN ASANKA’ will involve and celebrate the cooking of the traditional Ghanaian soul satisfying dish called ABOMU made in an Asanka.
In Ghana, abomu is a simple tasty stew made from very few ingredients, usually not more the 4 vegetables. Yet the umami and full bodied flavours achieved is to die for. Abomu is traditionally made in an Asanka, an earthenware grinder. Using the Asanka adds to the flavours of the dish and presents a ready bowl for which the food is directly eaten from. In the Ghanaian Akan heritage, cooking in an Asanka presents a time when the whole family gathers to eat from the same pot. It nurtures love, unity and happiness in the family.
Our cooking class, ‘Love brewed in Asanka’ will be based on this tradition where couples or groups of people will cook abomu in an Asanka and share the meal from it afterwards. We hope that this class will be the love bond you’re looking for to help nurture your relationships.

As a bonus, you’ll learn how to cook some accompaniments for the abomu. It will be a fun learning session in an atmosphere where you can ask questions.
