Black-Owned Coffee Shops Exist: Here Are 3 In London

Coffee shops are a booming industry. An office for some people, a living room for others – cafés are so popular because they’re relaxed, cosy and cater to people from all walks of life. But it’s time for some black-owned alternatives to Starbucks and Pret. This list of 3 black-owned coffee shops in London is your guide to indulging in some of the best independent cafés from the Black British community.

Tribe Café

Whether you’re a foodie or a freelancer, trust that Tribe will have something for you. This newly-launched vegan café, juice bar and coworking space in Streatham doesn’t compromise on either, with both delicious food and great facilities for those looking for a place to get their work done. If you need more proof that Tribe is the best of both worlds, check out their menu – it’s as much french toast as it is jollof and plantain stew.

Saint Aymes

You might have already seen ‘London’s most beautiful café’ posted a thousand times across social media, and the plush pastel flowers adorning the exterior of Saint Aymes really are hard to miss. Founded by two sisters, this indulgent black-owned coffee shop, bakery and tea house is equipped with a stunning menu to serve your sweet tooth. The café is situated right next to Hyde Park and they also have an afternoon tea spot inside House Of Fraser on Oxford Street.

Kaffa Coffee

Kaffa Coffee is named after the region in Ethiopia where coffee was born, and founder Markos has been brewing the best for over 15 years. Kaffa serves Dalston locals at their stall in Gillett Square every day, and on Thursdays and Fridays Ethiopian lunch is on the menu too. But that’s not all: they’ve just opened a cafe around the corner on Bradbury Street.
